Trial classes in the school holidays: when they're worth it

Victorian school holidays run two weeks at most, which is a tight window for trial-and-commit. Trials are sometimes worth it and often not. Here's how to tell, and a cheaper way to get the same signal.

Worth it if

  • You're considering a 5-day full-week camp with a new provider
  • Your kid is anxious about new environments
  • The provider offers free or cheap holiday trials (many do; ask)

Skip it if

  • The provider has consistent recent reviews and looks legit
  • It's a single-session activity: just book it
  • You've used the provider before in any capacity (term classes count)
  • The trial fee is more than ~30% of a single-day rate; just book a single day instead

The best trial alternative: book one half-day first, see how it goes, then commit to the full week. It's cheaper than a separate trial fee and gives you a real signal.

And don't trial just because you can. Holiday windows are short: a wasted day on a "maybe" trial is a day you could have spent actually doing something.
